Car #3 of Carl Merrill and Lance Smith crashed on SS1 after the driver suffered a cardiac arrest. Carl Merrill was airlifted to hospital where he passed away the following day. The entire first leg of the rally was cancelled, but the Merrill family asked the organisers to continue the event on day 2.
